Definition
A karmic wound is a deep psychological or spiritual injury that persists as a repeating pattern across a person's life — and in some traditions, across lifetimes. In evolutionary astrology, it is encoded in the natal chart through the South Node, Chiron, and Pluto placements, representing unresolved experiences that the soul brings into this life for conscious integration.
Deep Understanding
The concept of karmic wounds bridges Eastern and Western traditions. In Vedic philosophy, karma operates as the law of action and consequence: unresolved actions create impressions (samskaras) that persist until consciously addressed. In Jungian psychology, the equivalent concept is the complex — an emotionally charged pattern that operates autonomously from the unconscious, driving repetitive behaviors that the individual cannot understand or control.
In evolutionary astrology, the South Node reveals the familiar territory of the karmic wound — the patterns, skills, and tendencies that come easily but no longer serve growth. Chiron reveals the specific nature of the wound itself, and its house placement shows the life arena where the pattern repeats most insistently.
The karmic wound is not punishment. It is unfinished curriculum. The Gnostic understanding adds a layer: the wound is also the place where the Archontic programming is weakest, because it is the place where the individual cannot fully adapt to the matrix of material conditioning.
